2oz of Luxury

4 Jun

I bought this amazingly brilliant aqua fiber, silk & cashmere i’ll have you know, at the very first Sock Summit. It was a dark time in my life & I was in desperate need of cheerful color. I was just learning to spin on a wheel. Since cashmere is a short fiber and silk a long one, I ended up with lots of blip s & blurbs, or rather thick & thin spots. I tried knitting it into the “candy wrapper scarflette”, but the fiber had more color variation & thus striped more than looked good with the pattern.

And that’s how that project got frogged. Now fast fwd to April 2010.

I have 2 full baskets of handspun ( > 100 oz), a LOT of fiber! I’m determined to use it ALL up. And I don’t want any scraps of yarn left when I’m done. Voilà! 2oz of Luxury is born. I designed a 2×2 rib cowl with a little flaring. I think I had an inch or 2 left after weaving in my ends. This cowl is delightful! It adds a punch of color to any outfit, isn’t bulky, and provides just enough warmth for the office and those chilly northwest summers. I’m sketching & cartooning a bit as I handwrite write the pattern. So stay tuned if you want to make your own! Or if you dont knit, you can commission me to make one for you.
